Under the 1978 Act, the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness was created. The Powwow Trail is a 3-mile lollipop trail that then leads to a loop that goes on for 25 miles.
Its construction began in 1979 by linking old logging roads by Forest Center to new wilderness paths.
Hiking in the area offers a chance to experience remote wilderness with incredible views. Various festivals and events take place in the surrounding areas during the summer.
They include Festival Innu Nikamu, Festival du conte et de la Légende de L’Innucadie, Festival de Contes et Légendes Atalukan, and more.
